So, city life was becoming a little much for me so I decided to take a break from Sydney and head north to Queensland. I booked my ticket, packed my bag, hung up my work boots….wait I packed my work boots as I am going to work on a farm for 10 days!

I am flying from Sydney to Townsville, then catching a bus, this afternoon to Charters Towers, whereupon I will be picked up by my host family…I hope!

Just in case I hadn’t had enough of getting up at 5.30am every day to go to work I thought I would continue this habit and head to Charters Towers to work. Well, about 2 hours away from Charters Towers, which is a couple of hours away from Townsville in Queensland.

I am not at all sure what I am getting myself in for. I am going to stay with a family to help out on their property for a bit, that is about as much information as I have. I think I will be doing some odd jobs, grooming and feeding the horses (hopefully I will get to ride them!) and generally just lend a hand in return for room and board.

Although I have had a few emails back a forwards with Genine, the lady of the house, we have not actually spoken on the phone although I have left a couple of messages. I hope that they are there to pick me up at the other end. If not, I guess I will have to find some other kind of trouble to get into!

I found these guys through a website called HelpX (http://www.helpx.net/) which allows farmers to advertise for help on their properties in order to give people a taste of their lifestyle and accommodation and food in return for some work. The guys I have been in touch with look really nice and I am looking forward to getting stuck in!
