Theatre: Majestic Theater
We had a great time in San Antonio. The Majestic Theater was just that! It was one of the most beautiful theatres we have played to date. The roof is painted blue so at first glance when you walk in it looks like it could almost be open to the sky.
The weather was great while we were in town. It is surprising how much of a difference that makes to the atmosphere in the theatre. People don’t have to run to work to avoid the cold and the promise of spring seemed to put everyone in a good mood.
People in Texas really like Blue Man. Again we had great crowds and brilliant responses to every show.
The city of San Antonio itself is quite beautiful and were there at the best time of year, before it got too hot. The riverwalk is such a vibrant part of the city that I was glad to have the time to walk around. It is like this hidden world that you could almost forget about if you just made your way around the roads beneath which it intertwines. Making your way down the stairs and along side the water feels like you are entering a secret maze lined with cafes and shops. There are boats which will take you on guided tours around the river but I chose to wander round on foot.
No visit to San Antonio is complete without a visit to the Alamo. It is free to get in and set in the midst of some beautiful gardens. It is quite different today than back when Davy Crockett was around. It stands now as a shrine in memory of all the people that that lost their lives defending it against the Mexican army in 1836. The mission itself is a small, inauspicious building at the edge of some beautiful gardens.
